  1. Florida ahead of Georgia? Really? Is head-to-head taken into account? On top of that Florida got stomped by a crappy Louisville team.

    • My ranking methods weighs strength of schedule heavily (maybe too heavily). Florida had a tougher schedule this year than Georgia. And they won most of their games. Florida beat Texas A&M, South Carolina (who beat Georgia), LSU, and Florida State, which are all impressive wins. So, I don’t think it’s totally crazy to have Florida ahead of Georgia.

Also, ranking and predicting outcomes aren’t the same thing. If Georgia were to play Florida again I’d have Georgia favored by 3 or 4 points.

    • Also, for what it’s worth, 5 of the 6 BCS computer polls had Florida ranked number 2 in the last set of standings before the bowl games. And all six of them had Florida ranked about Georgia.

  2. Doesn’t make sense to me at all. Do not agree with Florida’s ranking at all. Not going to get into an arguement, just won’t follow this as an accurate rankings. If you were ranking ‘heavily’ on schedule, Notre Dame wouldn’t be ranked as high as you have it.

    • Well where would you rank Florida? Where would you rank Notre Dame? What do you mean by accurate? Are you looking for a predictive rankings? There’s a big difference between predictive rankings and rankings based on what has been accomplished on the field. For instance, before the BCS title game would you agree that Notre Dame should have been ranked 1? I don’t think there is any debate about that. But as far as predictions go, anyone who knows what they are doing would predict Alabama to win. I predicted Alabama to win 30-10 even while my rankings had Notre Dame 1. To reiterate, ranking and prediction are not the same thing.

Also, Notre dame beat Stanford (who beat Oregon), Michigan, and Oklahoma (at Oklahoma). Those aren’t exactly easy games. According to Sagarin, Notre Dame’s strength of schedule was 21st. Compare that to Florida’s strength of schedule, 4, and Georgia’s, 27.

    • 5. FLORIDA (11-2). Gators laid the biggest egg of the postseason in a Sugar Bowl flop against Louisville, but still boast four wins over teams that finished in the top fifteen. No one else except Alabama has more than two.
